STREAMS IN THE DESERT

Dear CCAM Partners and Friends,

For years we have been struggling to survive in a financial desert, and yet somehow God continues to revive us with miraculous provisions along the way. In addition to that, this year we have been experiencing desert-like temperatures in Cambodia, coupled with weak power or no power, from April until now. This has caused many of us at CCAMS to suffer from heat exhaustion and to succumb to other illnesses as well. Thanks to all of you who prayed for us during this time! Last week it seemed that everyone was healed, but this week new illnesses have appeared. Please keep praying for lower temperatures, for everyone’s healing and ongoing health, and for funds to pay medical costs, as well as our other operating and ministry expenses.

Let’s also remember to thank God that, even during these tribulations, He has provided some amazing refreshments that have lifted our spirits. Easter week began on Palm Sunday with Kelsey leading a special song presentation by our preschoolers in the morning, followed by everyone viewing “The Jesus Film” in the evening. At the end of the week, Easter Sunday began with Kelsey sharing an object lesson reviewing the events of Christ’s final days, by opening plastic eggs to reveal tiny symbols. The last egg was empty, representing the empty tomb! Between the two Sundays, the kids who were physically up to it enjoyed fun games, egg hunts, and easel painting.

On Mothers’ Day, Kelsey treated all of the “mothers” at CCAMS to a special breakfast, and Reaksmey gave them fragrant garlands of jasmine flowers. The preschoolers presented illustrated cards to the mothers at worship.

On May 15, CCAMS celebrated the Tenth Anniversary of Sophun and Reaksmey’s wedding with a special program. Buntheep sang a beautiful song that she composed, lyrics by Gioia and Noren based on Ephesians 5:21-33. How encouraging to remember that Sophun and Reaksmey, who are graduate staff, have been faithfully serving God with us ever since 1995, when they first joined CCAMS as teenaged students!

And on May 26, Kelsey and Noren took Gioia to lunch at Java Café for her 70th birthday, with a surprise visit from Rin Yame, a former CCAMS student now with Water of Life, who brought a financial donation for CCAMS, plus a basket of fruit and a huge cake for Gioia. The cake was enough to share with all the students and staff that evening! Rin also treated everyone to a whole box of apples, and Buntheep presented Gioia with an artistic creation to hang over her door!

Although we receive these wonderful blessings with gratitude, we also cry out to God for some lasting solutions for our pressing needs. “The righteous cry and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them out of them all!” (Psalm 34:17-19) Please continue to pray for miraculous “rain” from heaven that will flow like streams to transform our “desert” into a productive land again!

Even as I was writing this, a natural thunderstorm began to pour rain upon our parched land, and has since cooled the air! Praise the Lord! Hopefully this is a sign of more refreshment to come!
